DMTF Shares Plans for Its PLDM for Firmware Update Specification

Posted on Thu, 08/02/2018 - 12:35

DMTF’s Platform Management Components Intercommunication (PMCI) Working Group defines standards that provide a comprehensive, common architecture for improved communication between management subsystem components. These widely used standards include the Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) for Firmware Update specification. Work is well underway on the next version of this specification, and the group is sharing new details in a public presentation that outlines the efforts in progress.

Version 1.1.0 of the PLDM Firmware Update specification will support firmware updates using a PLDM endpoint to proxy the download to another attached device. This capability will include expanding the header structure for new device images, expanding the state machine to support a proxy based download, and create new inventory commands for devices attached to a proxy. In addition, the work in progress includes adding support for firmware activation independent of file transfer, as well as an expansion of the current list of error codes.
