CPPSWG CIM Profiles for Platforms and Services Working Group

Working Group Chair(s)

  • John Leung, Intel Corporation
  • Hemal Shah, Broadcom Limited

Working Group Description

The CIM Profiles for Platforms and Services Working Group (CPPS WG) develops models, protocols, and profiles for managing server, desktop and mobile platforms, in addition to network services and security services. The models are based on the DMTF's Common Information Model.

The CPPS WG extends DMTF's Common Information Model, CIM, to model objects to discover, monitor, configure, and control platforms via the out-of-band interface. The out-of-band interface enables platform manageability independent of the state of the platform.

The CPPS WG specifies protocols that can be used to interact with the CIM objects supported by a platform. The protocols specified are utilize web services (WS-Man), and XML (WBEM) and a Command-Line Protocol (SM-CLP).

The CPPS WG specifies profiles which describe the behavior of CIM objects in order to fulfill manageability use cases. The DMTF Initiatives, DASH, SMASH, and NETMAN, specify a suite of profiles for specific management domains.

Below is the list of CPPS WG standards which are recognized internationally by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/IEC) or nationally by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI/INCITS). Details can found at ANSI/ISO Adoption.

  • "Architecture for Managed Computer Systems"
  • "CIM Representation for Management"
  • "Systems Management Discovery for Computing Systems"
  • "WS-MAN: Web Services for Management"
  • "SM-CLP: System Management - Command Line Protocol"
  • "Common Building Blocks for Distributed Management"
  • "Management of Security Credentials"
  • "Platform Management (Volume 1 & 2)" (DASH & SMASH)

The CIM Overview Document has been translated into Chinese by the DMTF China Chapter. The translation can be found at Translation.

The CPPS WG works with DMTF's System Management Forum (SMF) that is chartered to produce conformance test suites for the desktop, mobile, and server platform profiles.
