Common Diagnostic Model (CDM) Initiative
As an extension of the DMTF’s Common Information Model (CIM), the Common Diagnostic Model (CDM) specification is widely used within the industry to evaluate the health of computer systems in multi-vendor environments. CDM creates diagnostic instrumentation that can be utilized by platform management applications, and its tight synergy with the other manageability domains in CIM further enables integration of diagnostics into critical management functions.
CDM is an OS and platform neutral architecture for:
- Discovering diagnostics and their capabilities
- Controlling diagnostic execution
- Retrieving diagnostics results
The recently-announced CDM Forum, part of DMTF's Interoperability Initiative, is helping deliver additional compatibility in cross-platform system diagnostics through new conformance testing programs, as well as a Software Developer’s Kit (SDK) – streamlining the development and integration of diagnostic modules within the CIM infrastructure.
The DMTF welcomes feedback on our standards, but requires that individuals submitting comments first agree to our DMTF Feedback Policy. Note that current DMTF members should not use this feedback system - instead, submit feedback via email to the DMTF's Vice President of Technology.
