SVM 2008 in Munich, Germany

DMTF continues its efforts to bring members of the world's technology industry together. The DMTF Academic Alliance is hosting the upcoming second annual Systems and Virtualization Management Conference 2008 (SVM 2008). This academic workshop will be held in Munich, Germany, on Oct. 21-22, 2008. The workshop is dedicated to academic research on standards for new technologies in systems and virtualization management. It will feature presenters from across the globe, including Spain, Japan, China, Canada, Germany and France. Attendees will also be given a guided tour of BMW World and a gala dinner at the Ratskeller restaurant.

Registration for this event is now open. Some attendees may need an official letter of invitation to get a visa to come to Germany. They must request it by sending an email to svm08@lrz.de and providing their personal information.

System management has seen growing interest in virtualization technology and the need to manage virtualization of server, storage and network resources, so register today to reserve your invitation now.

CDM Showcase 2008

The Common Diagnostic Model (CDM) Forum is hosting its 2008 MDC Showcase at the Santa Clara Marriott in Santa Clara, Calif. on Nov. 17 - 20, 2008. The showcase will allow companies to work with key original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and third party application vendors to integrate modules into their CDM based solutions. Companies will be recognized by the industry for CDM progress and support of CDM adoption. Companies that are already among the leaders of CDM will have an opportunity to help pave the way for broad industry adoption.

The increasing interest for uniting the computer industry on a single interoperable interface to all system diagnostics makes this a perfect opportunity to learn more about CDM and be a part of future development and implementations. Show that your company is an industry leader of CDM adoption.

The showcase registration is now open for companies. Sign up now for to be apart of this industry event. Applications are due by August 15, 2008.

Questions can be sent to cdm-forum-chair@dmtf.org.

Alliance Partner Feature: Printer Working Group

This month we spotlight DMTF alliance partner, the Printer Working Group (PWG). A program of the IEEE-ISTO, PWG is an active standards development consortium for the printer, multifunction, print software and services and printer/MFD management industry. DMTF formalized an alliance with PWG as part of the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization in 1999.

Network Printing Alliance (NPA) was reformed in 1993 to the PWG with the additions of HP, Compaq, Microsoft, Xerox, Zenith and Fujitsu. For the past 15 years, PWG has developed most of the printing management standards in the industry. The group was chartered to make printers, multi-function devices and applications and operating systems, supporting them to improve interoperability.

The PWG and DMTF Alliance was formed in 2005. At various points throughout the history of the PWG and DMTF Alliance, the organizations collaborated to align models and semantics. The DMTF Common Information Model (CIM) for printers, print jobs and print services correlated in some areas with standards developed by the PWG, such as the Printer MIB and Internet Printing Protocol.

This month, PWG will participate in P2600 Hardcopy Device and System Security meetings in Camas, Washington. These meetings will allow members to guide and learn about the development of the industry standards in defining hardcopy security requirements.
