Today’s government agencies have found that end-to-end management – across multiple components – in a distributed setting is both a reality and a necessity. Systems including personal computers, servers, subnets, the network core, storage and software must all interoperate to provide connectivity and services. As information passes between these boundaries, management must pass across these boundaries, as well.
The DMTF works to address the needs of government agencies, with widely implemented standards and technologies that deliver vendor-neutral management interoperability in a distributed environment. From the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) standards, which deliver a common way to describe and exchange management information, to the Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) specifications, which enable simple and intuitive management of heterogeneous servers in the data center, DMTF's platform-independent technologies provide agencies with the reduced operational costs that result from a simplified IT infrastructure.
Public sector organizations are an important part of the DMTF community, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which works with the DMTF as an Alliance Partner.
