Developing management standards & promoting
interoperability for enterprise & Internet environments

Developers

Developers are continually being asked to do more with less. In this environment, in which heterogeneous systems are the norm, the need for developers to deliver long-term interoperability and vendor-neutral management capabilities necessitate the use of robust industry standards.

As the organization leading the development of management standards and integration technology for enterprise and Internet environments, the DMTF offers developers the flexibility to help ensure that their existing systems will be compatible with future offerings from across the industry. In addition, by providing developers with technologies that facilitate data reuse and support management extensions, the DMTF helps maximize resources and speed the development cycle.

Developers can tap into the power of the DMTF's Common Information Model (CIM), a conceptual model for computing and networking environments - the managed entities, their states, operations, composition, configuration, and relationships. CIM’s object-oriented design provides support for both low-level equipment details and high-level service composition.

Other key standards from the DMTF include the Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) standards, which deliver a common way to exchange management information, and the Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) specifications, which enables simple and intuitive management of heterogeneous servers in the data center.
