Data Center Management

In today’s data center, effective IT management in a heterogeneous environment is vital to controlling costs. The need to streamline processes and deliver business value has become a growing requirement, and with important initiatives like grid and utility computing underway at many organizations, vendor-independent, platform neutral data center management is a necessity.

The DMTF develops the management standards that address the pain points in the data center. From the Common Information Model (CIM) and Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) standards, which deliver a common way to describe and exchange management information, to the Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) specifications, which enable simple and intuitive management of heterogeneous servers in the data center, the DMTF is the industry organization leading the development of management standards and integration technology for the data center.
