Scalable Platforms Management API Released for Public Comment

Less than a month after the formation of the DMTF’s Scalable Platforms Management Forum (SPMF), the organization is releasing four Work in Progress (WIP) deliverables from the Forum for public comment. Designed to help enable simple, modern and secure management of scale-out platform hardware, the Scalable Platforms Management API Specification, Schema, Mockup and White Paper are now available for download at http://dmtf.org/join/spmf.

Scalability in today’s cloud and web-based infrastructures is increasingly achieved with horizontal, scale-out solutions, which often include large quantities of simple servers. To meet these scalability requirements and integrate as much as possible with existing tool chains in multi-vendor scale-out deployments, the WIP DMTF Scalable Platforms Management API provides a major step toward an open industry standard for management in these data center environments.

To best address the needs of IT professionals – drawing from experience gained in widely-used protocols, such as REST, and constructs such as JSON and/or OData – the DMTF welcomes input on these WIP materials. The Scalable Platforms Management API Specification, Schema and Mockup each consist of a .zip file that contains two versions. The SPMF is soliciting feedback on both versions of the work product.  To provide feedback directly to SPMF on the WIP visit http://www.dmtf.org/standards/feedback.

Promoter members of the DMTF’s SPMF include Broadcom, Dell, Emerson Network Power, HP, Intel and Microsoft, with Supporting members American Megatrends, Huawei and VMware. If you would like to join in this important work, please visit http://dmtf.org/join/spmf.
